Volunteers needed for virtual nano tour!
The Koch Institute is planning a virtual nano tour as part of the annual Cambridge Science Festival. We are looking for volunteers who can provide either a virtual lab tour or an online demo, as well as brief reflections on what it’s like to work in nanomedicine and/or a big picture overview about the field. If you are interested in helping with this effort, please contact Erika at ereinfeld@mit.edu.

Vaccination by Inhalation
MIT researchers have developed a new vaccination strategy that can create an army of T cells that can protect mucosal surfaces such as the lungs. Read more…
Without these lipid shells, there would be no mRNA vaccines for COVID-19
Fragile mRNA molecules used in COVID-19 vaccines can’t get into cells on their own. They owe their success to lipid nanoparticles that took decades to refine. Drs. Bob Langer and Dan Anderson weigh in on recent trends in the field. Read more…
STEM Professional Development Initiative STEMxx Chats Launches Amid Pandemic
Amid the shutdown, MIT affiliates decided to harness the remote world to bring people together across the globe. They wanted to connect with others in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) disciplines and support one another. This forced inactivity also provided time for students to dive into soft skills and explore career possibilities that are often underemphasized in their education. With a group of 30 young women in high school, college, and graduate school, they began having small group discussions and hosting interviews with top women in STEM and panels related to career decisions. Things grew rapidly and within months the events and online content had reached over 1000 people from all over the world. Read more…

Senior Scientist – Bioconjugation Chemistry and Targeted Delivery, Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research.
NIBR is seeking a highly motivated scientist with expertise in bioconjugation chemistry and targeted delivery to join a dynamic and experienced cell and gene therapy team at Novartis pushing new frontiers in targeted gen(om)e editing. We are aiming to develop a one-time curative therapy for sickle cell disease and HIV. This effort is part of an exciting collaboration between Novartis and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This position resides in the Biotherapeutic Engineering and Gene Therapy (BEGT) group within NIBR Biologics Center (NBC) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The BEGT group drives a diverse portfolio of modalities including therapeutic proteins, multi-specific antibodies, CAR-T, RNA therapeutics, AAV and lentiviral vectors. Working collaboratively with Disease area groups BEGT broadens the use of biologics in therapeutic applications where conventional antibodies have limitations. Read More…
Sr. Scientist, Early BioProcess Development, Pfizer.
This is a laboratory-based position within the Vaccine Research and Development – Analytical Development group. The primary focus of this role is to develop robust analytical assays, and to design and execute assay qualification and transfer studies in support of early vaccine development for a range of adjuvants and antigens. Assays include standard analytical separations (HPLC, CE, etc.) and spectroscopic techniques (UV, DLS). In addition, the candidate will be expected to provide analytical support for bioprocess and formulation development of new adjuvants and antigens by performing routine and non-routine sample testing.
